All The Proteins!

All The Proteins!

Ok, this isn’t all the proteins. It’s just the ones from C. neoformans¬†that are most similar to each other (more than 70%). Some of them are only like one other protein (all the pairs down at the bottom), but others form what are know as families of related proteins. Some of those families are really big, with lots of close siblings and distantly related cousins and second cousins. And the two largest of those families, at the top of the picture, are made entirely of proteins that are completely unrelated to any proteins that are found anywhere in humans. We don’t have any idea what most of them do. YET.
